'Color of Loss'

This contest was to colour an image from Jazza's new colouring book that was made from one of his videos.

As was part of the challenge I really tried to play close attention to colours I used, not only in terms of what could visually work, but also what works well with the emotion of the scene. Knowing that I wanted the Ghost to be blue, I chose warm colours with a focus on oranges to be a contrast. I felt this would also help give the scene a living quality. My idea was to emphasize the feeling over life carrying on after a great loss. Not just the loss of love, but the destruction of the environment.

I thought having a calm sky would help with giving the impression that this is very much a moment after the fact. Initially I was going to have it look mid-day with clear blue skies and fluffy white clouds, but it didn't work. Partly because it wasn't really adding anything and also because it would blend too much with the Ghost. I changed my mind to it being an evening setting and I am happy I made this choice as I feel it really pushed what I was going for.

This was great fun to do and it was nice flexing my colouring skills to this level. Really happy to have participated in this contest.
